About this preview

IMD comes in two parts that share one set of data. The web app has everything, with the room to run the business from a desk: the Planner's week, timesheets, income and the company's settings. The phone app carries the crew's day (today's jobs, a timer for travel and time on site, photos and chat), and gives owners and managers most of the office work on the move: raising jobs, putting people on them, quotes, invoices and payments.

The preview is a full working copy of both, running on test servers. Nothing you do here reaches a real customer, and nothing is charged. It is the version we want you to push on before IMD goes live.

It's a test space. Try anything, including the things a real business would never do. We may reset the data from time to time. If you set up something you want to keep, tell us first.

Getting in

Use the web on a laptop or desktop, and the app on your phone. Every login works on both. Signing in to both at once, as two different people, is the best way to see them work together.

On the web

Go to imd.publicapreview.co.nz/login and sign in with one of the demo logins below. Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox all work.

On an iPhone

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store. It's Apple's app for trying apps before release.
  2. Open the TestFlight invitation we email you, and tap View in TestFlight.
  3. Tap Install next to IMD Preview.

On an Android phone

  1. Send us the Google account email you use for the Play Store, so we can add you to the testers.
  2. Open the testing link we send back, sign in with that account, and tap Become a tester.
  3. Install IMD Preview from the Play Store page the link opens.

Demo logins

These are the people in Kōwhai Plumbing, a small demo business we've set up for you. Every one uses the password ImdDemo2026!.

Reporting issues

Both the web and the phone app have a feedback button from Pinpoint, the tool our team works from. Anything you send lands with us as a card, with a screenshot and the details we need to find the problem. Use it for bugs, but also for anything confusing, missing, or that you'd simply like done differently.

On the web

  1. Find the round button in the bottom-right corner of every page.
  2. The first time, it asks you to sign in to Pinpoint. We'll send you an invitation to set that up.
  3. Once you're signed in, hover over the button and pick how to show us:
    • Capture an area Ctrl Shift A
    • Capture the full page Ctrl Shift S
    • Record your screen Ctrl Shift V
    • Send feedback without a screenshot
  4. Add a title and a few words, then send.

On the phone

  1. Tap the bug button on the right edge of the screen. It takes a screenshot of what you're looking at.
  2. Choose Bug, Question or Polish, then say what you noticed, with more detail if it helps.
  3. Tap Draw on it to circle the problem on the screenshot.
  4. The first time, add your name and email. The app remembers them after that. Then tap Send to the team.

The button in the way? Press and hold it to hide it until you next open the app.

What makes a report easy to act on

  • One thing per report. Three small issues are easier to track as three cards.
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. The screenshot shows the screen; your words show the intent.
  • Who you were signed in as, if it isn't obvious from the screenshot.

Each card reaches Lance, Nikko and Kelsie at Publica. We reply on the card itself, so you can follow what happens to everything you send.

Two ways to explore

Start with the demo business to see IMD with some work already in it. Then set up a business of your own to see what a brand-new customer goes through.

Kōwhai Plumbing, the demo business

A small Auckland plumbing business with most of a year's work behind it:

  • Four customers, a van and two tools
  • Six jobs: two for Sam today, one tomorrow, one waiting for a date and a crew, two finished
  • One quote out with a customer, one accepted
  • One invoice waiting to be paid, and two paid invoices a month since January
  • A chat thread about tomorrow's job

Your own business, from scratch

  1. Go to imd.publicapreview.co.nz/register and sign up with your own email and a business name. Your email is your login.
  2. IMD opens with a short checklist to set the business up. Work through it.
  3. Invite a couple of tradies (see the note below). Each one gets an email, sets a password, and signs in to the phone app.

Invitations need real email addresses. The demo addresses don't receive mail. If you have a Gmail account, you can invent as many test tradies as you like by adding a plus and a word to your address: you+sam@gmail.com and you+ruby@gmail.com both arrive in your own inbox.

The getting-started checklist: add business details, invite your team, add a customer, raise a job, put the team on the work, price the job.
The setup checklist a new business sees first. It's under your name, bottom left, any time you want it back.

Three things to try

Short runs through the jobs IMD is built for. Each one takes about ten minutes. Report anything that trips you up along the way.

A tradie's day

Sam on the phone · Tom on the web, side by side

  1. On the phone, sign in as tradie@kowhai.test. The Jobs tab shows Sam's two jobs for today.
  2. Open Leaking kitchen tap and tap Leaving now. His travel time starts.
  3. Tap I've arrived, then slide to start job.
  4. Add a photo from site, and post a message in the job's chat.
  5. Slide to leave site, and mark the job completed.
  6. On the web as Tom, check the bell and the job itself: the status, the photo, the message, and Sam's hours in Timesheets.

From job to paid

Tom on the web, or Lucy on the phone: both can do every step

  1. In the Planner, find Outdoor tap install. It has no date and nobody on it. Assign Ruby and pick a day.
  2. In Quotes, open the quote for the outdoor tap. Mark it accepted, then Turn into an invoice.
  3. Issue the invoice, then Record a payment against it.
  4. Open Income and find the payment.

To see the email a customer receives, change Seaview Café's email to your own under Customers before you send anything.

A new business

Your own account on the web · an invited tradie on the phone

  1. Sign up at /register and add your business details, logo and brand colour.
  2. Invite a tradie with a real email address, and accept the invitation from that inbox.
  3. Add a customer and raise a job for them.
  4. Put the tradie on the job in the Planner, then sign in on the phone as that tradie and find it there.

The web app, part by part

The sidebar on the left is the map of the web app. Each part is described below in the order it appears there. A tradie sees fewer parts than the office, so this lists who sees each one.

Dashboard

Everyone

Where the business stands right now: today's run sheet of who is where, counts of jobs by status, and what's coming up next.

Try: sign in as Tom and read today's run sheet. Both of Sam's jobs are on it.

The dashboard, with today's run sheet, job counts by status and up-next jobs.

Jobs

EveryonePhone: Jobs tab

The register of every job the business has on, from raised to invoiced. A job holds the customer, the site, what needs doing, photos and files, its chat, the time recorded on it, its quotes and invoices, and a history of who changed what. Tradies see only the jobs they are on.

Try: raise a new job, or open Hot water cylinder replacement and look through its tabs.

The jobs list.

Planner

Owner and managersPhone: assign from a job

Who is on what, and when. Assign people and gear to jobs, tag leave, and read the week as a calendar or a day at a time. Whoever you put on a job sees it on their phone straight away.

Try: assign Outdoor tap install, then switch to the Week tab to see it land.

The Planner's jobs list, with an unassigned job at the top and an Assign button on each row.
Jobs: everything still to plan, with who and what is on each.
The Planner's week calendar, Monday to Sunday, with each job placed at its time and the people on it.
Week: the whole team's week as a calendar, and a nudge for any job with no date yet.
The Planner's day view for today, showing Sam's two jobs at their times.
Day: one day at a time, for planning tomorrow or checking today.

Timesheets

Everyone

The hours the team recorded with the phone timer, laid out by week. The office can correct an entry and export the week for payroll. A tradie sees their own week here, with nothing to fill in.

Try: after Sam finishes a job on the phone, find his hours here.

The weekly timesheet.

Quotes

Owner and managersPhone: from a job

Price a job, email it to the customer as a PDF, and record whether they said yes. An accepted quote turns into an invoice in one step.

Try: start a quote from a job, with a few lines, and download the PDF.

A sent quote with Mark accepted and Mark declined buttons, its lines and the GST total.

Invoices

Owner and managersPhone: from a job, payments too

Bill the customer, record payments as they come in, and let IMD send the reminders. Unpaid invoices are chased on the due date and every week after, up to three times.

Try: record a part payment on the staffroom sink invoice and watch what's still owing.

An invoice with Record a payment, Email to customer and Download PDF buttons.

Income

Owner and managers

What the business billed and what it was actually paid, month by month, with what's still owed and what's overdue.

Try: record a payment, then come back here.

The income summary.

Chat

EveryonePhone: Chat tab

A thread on each job, so the questions from site stay with the work instead of scattering across everyone's phones. Photos can go in too. Tradies see the threads for the jobs they're on.

Try: reply to the cylinder thread as Tom, and watch it arrive on Sam's phone.

The chat thread on the hot water cylinder job.

Notifications

Everyone

The bell. It catches what you missed: someone assigned to a job, a tradie on their way or arriving on site, a timer that was left running. The phone gets the same as push notifications. Each person chooses what they receive under Settings, Notifications.

The notifications list.

Customers

Owner and managersPhone: Customers tab

Who you work for, and how to reach them. Every job, quote and invoice points back here. A customer you no longer work with can be archived without losing their history.

The customers list.

Equipment

Owner and managers

The gear the business owns, so the right van and tools go out with the crew that needs them. The Planner shows what's booked where.

Settings and your company

Everyone, Company for the office

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Settings. Everyone has their profile, password and notifications there. The office also has Company: business details and logo, brand colour, invoice settings, the rules for a working day, the team, and invitations.

Try: give your own business a brand colour and watch the app change to match.

Company settings, with trading name, logo, GST number and working-day settings.

The phone app

Built first for the person on the tools: big buttons, one job at a time, and a timer that records travel and time on site as they go. Owners and managers get the office's everyday work on it too.

The tabs

  • Jobs: today's jobs up top, then everything else you're on.
  • Schedule: the days ahead.
  • Chat: the threads for your jobs.
  • Customers: for owners and managers only.
  • Account: your details and sign-out. The last line shows which version of the app you're on, which helps when you report something.

The timer, on each job

  1. Leaving now starts travel time, and the button changes to On the way.
  2. I've arrived ends travel and starts time on site.
  3. Slide to start job marks the work under way.
  4. Slide to leave site stops the clock, and the job can be marked completed.

The office sees each step as it happens. A timer still running at the end of the day is stopped and held for the office to check.

For owners and managers

  • Raise a job, and add a customer on the way.
  • Put people and gear on a job, with a warning for anyone on leave that day.
  • Raise a quote or an invoice from a job, mark a quote accepted and turn it into an invoice.
  • Record a deposit, a part-payment or the balance while still on site.

The Planner's week, timesheets, income and company settings stay on the web.

Not in this preview

  • Subscriptions and billing. Plans and payments for IMD itself are still being settled, so nothing asks you to pay and plan limits don't apply.
  • Mail to demo addresses. Anything sent to a .test address, like the demo people and customers, isn't delivered. Use real addresses when you want to see an email arrive.
  • Final app listing. IMD Preview is a test build. The real app will be its own listing on the App Store and Google Play.

What we'd like to hear

Anything at all. There are no set questions, because the most useful feedback is usually about something we didn't think to ask. These are the kinds of things we're looking for.

Anything that's broken

Errors, buttons that do nothing, wrong numbers, screens that look off. Small things count too.

The right tools in the right place

Whether the owner, a manager and a tradie each have what they need, on the web and on the phone, and nothing they shouldn't.

Whether the workflows make sense

Whether the way a job moves from first call to paid matches how a trade business really works, and where it feels slow, backwards or needs adjusting.

Anything missing or unclear

Something you went looking for and couldn't find, or a word or screen that didn't make sense the first time.

The easiest way to tell us is Pinpoint, right on the screen in question: Bug for something broken, Question when you're not sure, and Polish for anything you'd change. Bigger thoughts are just as welcome at our next meeting.
